The Elusive Kiwi

Another reason to stop in Napier was to see the Kiwi House at the National Aquarium. Kiwis are very endangered. They are flightless and their population was decimated when mammals arrived in NZ. I was surprised to see how quickly they move around. They have nostrils at the ends of their beak, so they scurry around sniffing for bugs, etc. Kiwis are nocturnal, so this picture was taken in the dark.
